Marie Madelein Joseph of Kenwood passed away peacefully surrounded by family on March 1 in Kenwood, at the age of 89. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edmond, in 2014. Marie is survived by three children, seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

At the age of 24, she immigrated from Arette, France, to San Francisco where she worked in the laundry business before meeting her husband of 60-plus years at one of the French lodges.

They raised their children in San Francisco and San Carlos before moving to Kenwood in retirement. Kenwood provided beautiful surroundings that reminded her of growing up in the Pyrenees. She enjoyed gardening and tending to their vineyard.

A Vigil will be held at Duggan’s Mission Chapel in Sonoma on Thursday, March 23, at 7 p.m. Private entombment will be held at St. Francis Cemetery.

Correction: The photo caption originally mis-identified Tiger Muelrath as Marie Joseph's great-granddaughter. Tiger is the biological niece of Ruby Joseph, but part of the Joseph clan.
