New Horizons Concert Band comes to Berger
Saturday April 22nd - 2:00pmThe New Horizons Concert Band of Sonoma County will be at the Berger Center on Saturday, April 22, at 2 p.m. for a rousing concert.
The New Horizons Band is a member of a nationwide senior citizens activity started by musical educator Dr. Roy Ernst of the Eastman School of Music in New York. Ernst realized the value of music for seniors who had previously played an instrument, or wanted to learn to play one, and the value of belonging to a musical organization. There are now over 200 such bands all over the United States, Canada and Europe. The local unit in Santa Rosa began in 1998 with 12 players, and has grown to 82 members, a number of whom live in Oakmont.
The band is under the direction of Lew Sbrana from Healdsburg, with associate directors Sid Gordon from Redwood High School in Marin County, and Ray Walker from Santa Rosa. Lew Bishop is also an associate director and plays bassoon in the band.
Please join your friends and neighbors for an afternoon of delightful and entertaining music by accomplished musicians. The concert is free, but there will be a free-will offering for those who wish to participate.
