Sonoma Salutes Sugarloaf
Sunday August 27th - 5:00pmTeam Sugarloaf and Sonoma Ecology Center along with the Oakmont Hikers Club are celebrating five years of operating Sugarloaf State Park with a dinner gala at the Oakmont East Recreation Center, a venue that features a spectacular view of Hood Mountain and Sugarloaf.
The event includes wine and cocktails, a four-course meal, and a presentation by Bernie Krause, the world-renowned soundscape ecologist from Glen Ellen who has been studying Sugarloaf for many years.
Proceeds from the $75 a ticket fundraiser will go to support park operations. Five years ago, faced with closure in a state budget crisis, Team Sugarloaf, a consortium of five non-profit groups, assumed responsibility for operating the park, a novel situation in the hide-bound and bureaucratic California State park system. Jack London State Historic Park, Annadel State Park, Armstrong Woods State Park, all in Sonoma County, and Marin Countyís China Camp, were all turned over to various non-state operators, who have successfully managed them since.
Sonoma Salutes Sugarloaf will take place on Aug. 27 from 5 to 9 p.m. at 7902 Oakmont Dr. Tickets can be purchased online through BrownPaperTickets.com or at the Sonoma Ecology Centerís website, www.sonomaecologycenter.org.
