Folk trio at Newcomers Luncheon
Tuesday December 12th - 11:30amThe Santa Rosa Newcomers Luncheon on Tuesday, Dec. 12, 11:30 a.m. at the Quail Inn features More Joy, a folk music band that started with the duo Ann Benson and Iris Harrell in Dallas, Texas. Benson and Harrell moved to Oakmont two years ago after retiring, and revived More Joy, adding Oakmont resident Chris Finn on bass and vocals.
Originally from Texas, Benson still plays her Martin acoustic guitar that her dad bought her when she was 12. A singer, guitarist and arranger, she loves ballads and any kind of folk music. Singer/songwriter Harrell was on the road five years in the ‘70s in a band called Shiraz. She grew up in North Carolina and Virginia and loves country, gospel, and the Beatles. Finn is a native Californian and has been playing music with others since childhood. She has been in a variety of bands as an adult from folk to bluegrass. Her favorite part of being a member of More Joy is adding to the vocal harmonies while playing bass and listening to the “Prairie Home Companion”-style stories that Benson and Harrell share during their performance.
Guests are welcome. Please mail your $25 check to Santa Rosa Newcomers, P.O. Box 3978, Santa Rosa 95402 before Dec. 5. Specify chicken Florentine or grilled polenta, and please include your phone number. The Quail Inn is located at 7035 Oakmont Dr.
