2016 election autopsy Oakmont East Recreation Center

Thursday February 15th - 6:30pm

“Autopsy: The Democratic Party in Crisis” is an independent report that not only focuses on the flaws in the 2016 campaign, but outlines an extensive list of recommendations for the future. It shows that the electorate wants the Democratic Party to reject economic injustice, institutional racism, gender inequality, environmental destruction and corporate dominance.

Karen Bernal, co-writer of “Autopsy,” will offer this new vision of politics that is explicitly inclusive and participatory when she speaks to the Oakmont Democratic Club on Thursday, Feb. 15, at the East Recreation Center. The long list of recommendations includes supporting single-payer Medicare for all, free public college tuition, economic security, infrastructure, green jobs, tackling climate crisis, engaging with communities to become a part of the fabric of everyday life, fighting against assaults on voter rights, fighting for the economic rights of all women, and reaching out to African American women, young people and working people.

Bernal is a three-term chair of the California Democratic Party’s Progressive Caucus and a member of the California Democratic Party’s Executive Board. She served as co-chair of California’s Bernie Sanders delegation to the 2016 National Convention in Philadelphia.

Bernal coordinated the task force of four, which included Norman Solomon, Pia Gallegos and San McCann. Research was underwritten by Action for a Progressive Future.

The task force is optimistic that with changes that are inspirational and practical, a new foundation for social advancement can produce a humane future.

Sign-in and social hour begins at 6:30 p.m. Program and Q&A runs 7-8:30 p.m.
