Jack to Jack yacht race

Saturday April 27th -

The first-ever Jack to Jack boat race, put on by the new Jack London Yacht Club, is coming up on April 27.

The 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Jack to Jack race takes place in Glen Ellen, from the Jack London Lodge, creekside, to the Jack London Village, creekside, a .7 mile course. The boats are replicas of Jack Londonís SNARK.

There are several heats during the day. Each heat takes approximately 30 minutes. Winners from each heat participate in the final race to determine the yearís winner.

The concept of the JLYC and the Jack to Jack Yacht Race was born one night on a napkin by Commodore Jim Burch and Vice Commodore Ana Dominquez when they were brainstorming on how to host a benefit for the local nonprofits and fire departments after the 2017 fires. As Burch began to talk about the idea with local community members, the concept started to become a reality. Jack Londonís sailboat, the Snark, became the inspiration for the race.

The yacht club is a non-profit organization of volunteers that supports our local nonprofits and public entities, and builds community through fundraising efforts and engagement in the Valley of the Moon.

Proceeds from the Jack London Yacht Club go back to the community in the form of grants. Grant applications are available now on the clubís website.

You must be a nonprofit or local Sonoma County public agency to be eligible. Based on needs and available funding, grants are anticipated to range from $500 to $3,000.

Grants will be presented to recipients at a reception in June.
