Deerfield hosts fundraiser for local wetlands
Saturday June 2017 -
Deerfield Ranch Winery will host its annual Kenwood Wetlands Fundraiser on Saturday, June 3, at 6 p.m., to benefit Kenwood Wetland Restoration efforts. The theme for this year’s event is “Gambling for Good.” Tickets are $75 per person.
The evening will begin on the Deerfield Green overlooking the Kenwood Wetlands with wines from the Checkerbloom Collection, followed by dinner on the winery’s crush pad, prepared by Deerfield’s Executive Chef Christine Rex. Guests will adjourn to a pop-up casino in Deerfield’s wine cave to play roulette, blackjack and poker, with top players taking home valuable prizes. Proceeds from the night will be donated to the Kenwood Marsh Checkerbloom Society.
The Kenwood Marsh Checkerbloom Society, a nonprofit organization founded by PJ Rex, owner of Deerfield Ranch Winery, manages the restoration and maintenance of the Kenwood Wetland and protection of the endangered Kenwood Marsh Checkerbloom. To permanently protect this unique habitat, the winery granted a permanent conservation easement to the County of Sonoma.
In February, Deerfield’s Operations Manager Addison Rex led the annual Checkerbloom Workday. Eight local volunteers used shears to battle back invasive Himalayan blackberry and cautious scissor strokes to trim back native sedge, bringing sunlight to the Checkerbloom’s leaves and allowing the Checkerbloom’s seeds to reach the earth.
