Help spruce up Shaw Park

Shaw Park picnic area

Saturday July 15th 2017 - 8:00am to

The Rotary Club of Glen Ellen-Kenwood and Sonoma County Regional Parks think Shaw Park could use a little TLC, and they are sponsoring a volunteer day at the downtown Kenwood park on July 15, 8 a.m.-4 p.m.

Come out and help! With money raised from the proceeds of last year’s beer and wine booth at Funky Fridays, Rotarians and Regional Parks’ staff will be putting down a rock walking path and protecting the mighty oak with a split-rail fence to discourage foot traffic at the base of this 300+ year-old tree.

Soccer goal posts will be painted, along with some other maintenance.

Also assisting in the work day will be players from the Senior Sonoma County Soccer League, and Mark and Kathleen Bunte of Sonoma Valley Landscape, who will be providing pro bono equipment and services.

“We appreciate the Rotary Club’s obvious care for our parks, as demonstrated by this project,” said Melissa Kelley, executive director of the Sonoma County Regional Parks Foundation, the nonprofit that raises funds to support Regional Parks. “Rotary’s gift is generous in and of itself, and it has even more impact thanks to Club members’ willingness to volunteer and engage others.”

This will be an ongoing project and your suggestions are also requested. For further information or to volunteer, please call Nicki Artieres at 996-4381.
