Have an upbeat time at SIR #92

Tuesday August 2017 - to

The guest speaker at the Aug. 8 luncheon for Oakmont’s SIR 92 club will be Paul Doyle, publisher, along with his wife, of the Upbeat Times. Doyle began publication of good news and information in February of 1998. Originally test marketed in Fort Bragg, it was evident that the paper was widely enjoyed by those who were tired of the same old bad news headlines available in every town everywhere. Originally the Upbeat Times & Shopper, the paper graduated to the Upbeat Times when Doyle moved to Sonoma County with his new wife and daughter.

With only $1,000 and an idea in 2001, the paper received a warm response and dozens of sponsorships and advertising support. It expanded to well over 300 locations by the spring of 2002. The infusion of quotes, jokes, weird facts and humor has only fueled the desire to obtain an issue of Upbeat Times that comes out only 12 times per year.

SIR 92 is a local club for retired gentlemen that meets the second Tuesday of the month at Berger Center. Meetings include a social hour, bar service and a sit-down lunch with a choice of three entrees, salad and dessert. The club also hosts several social activities throughout the year such as winery tours and tastings, day trips to landmarks such as the SS Hornet, and more.
