Music at Oakmont opens season with Calidore Quartet
Thursday October 2017 -
Music at Oakmont welcomes the Calidore String Quartet on Thursday, Oct. 19, 1:30 p.m. in Oakmont’s Berger Center. Violinists Jeffrey Myers, Ryan Meehan and Jeremy Berry, and cellist Estelle Choi will make their third appearance in Oakmont. Since their last performance there in May 2016, the ensemble won the $100,000 Grand Prize in the first M-Prize International Chamber Music Competition, the most lucrative award in any such competition worldwide.
The Quartet’s “deep reserves of virtuosity and irrepressible dramatic instinct” (New York Times) and “balance of intellect and expression” (Los Angeles Times) have established them in the top echelon of chamber music ensembles. Other 2016 awards include the prestigious Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship, as well as being named BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artists, an honor that includes recordings, international broadcasts, and appearances in Britain’s most prestigious venues. This year the Calidore received the Lincoln Center Emerging Artists Award, and continues its three-year residency with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center’s CMS Two program.
The Quartet will perform two of Beethoven’s late quartets, Op. 127 and Op. 131. For further details, visit www.musicatoakmont.org.
