Gather together for ‘Sugarloaf Rising!’

Wednesday December 2017 - 6:30pm to

Seventy-five to 80 percent of Sugarloaf Ridge State Park burned during October’s catastrophic wildfires. Some of the fires were low and slow, some hot and high. Bridges, steps, sign posts, benches, tables, and campground facilities were destroyed. Yet, there are already signs of rebirth: water in the creek, green grass on the meadows and birds on the wing.

Help celebrate a local treasure on Dec. 6 when Team Sugarloaf hosts Sugarloaf Rising! at Landmark Winery in Kenwood. Find out about the condition of the park, plans for the future, and help bring Team Sugarloaf closer to reopening the park to the public.

Team Sugarloaf is a partnership of five nonprofit organizations that came together in 2012 to reopen and operate one of California’s most beautiful state parks. The partners are the Sonoma Ecology Center (lead), United Camps Conferences and Retreats, Valley of the Moon Observatory Association, Sonoma County Trails Council, and Valley of the Moon Natural History Association.

The event begins at 6:30 p.m. with wine and appetizers. There will be a park update at 7:30 p.m., followed by dessert at 8 p.m. Landmark Winery is generously providing the venue. Appetizers will be provided by local businesses.

Tickets are $35 and available at sugarloafrising.bpt.me/. Landmark Winery is located at 101 Adobe Canyon Road in Kenwood.
