Sonoma Mountain Trek

Saturday April 14th 2018 - to

Join TrekSonoma and Sonoma Mountain Preservation on April 14 and 15 for a two-day wander across Sonoma Mountain. Wildlife ecologist Meghan Walla-Murphy and historical ecologist Arthur Dawson are joining together to tell a holistic story of this beloved mountain in honor of cherished community member Pat Eliot.

Though a quarter of a million people live within a dozen miles of Sonoma Mountain, this iconic landmark remains undiscovered and barely explored by Sonoma County locals. Over two days, walk varied terrain amongst the spring wildflowers, from ridge top trails and vistas of the bay to the deep dark shade of redwood groves, and share meals under the stars.

One need not be an Olympian to make the hike, but be in shape for several days of walking. The first day’s walk will be approximately 7 miles from North Sonoma Mountain to Jack London Vineyard on varied terrain with an elevation gain of 1,000 feet. The second day will be approximately 6 miles of varied terrain similar to the first. Hikers carry only a knapsack with layers of clothing, water, optional camera and a portion of the “trail lunch.” Participants are responsible for their own sleeping bag, pad and tent (rental of tents and air mats available). LandPaths shuttles this equipment between night stays. Children over 12 who are hearty walkers are certainly encouraged to join their parent or caregiver.

Cost is $330 per person over 12 years old. Pay online at landpaths.org or call Mary Miyano at 544-7284, ext. 100. LandPaths encourages those for whom cost is a barrier to apply for the limited number of work-trade scholarships available.
