Residents invited to share concerns at ‘listening session’

Tuesday June 19th 2018 - to

Sustainable Sonoma, a group formed to gather community input on the future of Sonoma Valley, has been conducting a listening tour around the valley, with the next session scheduled for Tuesday, June 19, 6-7:30 p.m., at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church in Kenwood.

Sustainable Sonoma plans to use the information gathered from the public to tackle the region’s most serious challenges.

“Many residents worry that Sonoma Valley is headed down the wrong road,” said Caitlin Cornwall of the Sonoma Ecology Center, which spearheaded the formation of Sustainable Sonoma. “Sustainable Sonoma was formed to help solve that by getting many interest groups to work together. But first they need to hear the public’s point of view, and that’s where the listening sessions come in.”

The listening sessions gather people’s responses to eight questions like, “What problems in our community most concern you?” By canvassing the region and examining its “big picture” issues, Sustainable Sonoma’s 35 diverse groups – which include business organizations, health organizations, nonprofits, philanthropies, organized labor and local government entities – are attempting to identify shared priorities among these groups and the public. Once priorities are agreed upon, the groups will find new ways to work together to create a more resilient and sustainable future for Sonoma Valley.

Sustainable Sonoma recently received a $10,000 grant from Impact100 Sonoma grant in support of its mission.

St. Patrick’s is located at 9000 Sonoma Hwy. Ordaz Family Wines has generously donated wines to be raffled off at the Kenwood listening session.
