4th of July in Kenwood – something for everyone

Festivities include the Kenwood Community Church-sponsored pancake breakfast and silent auction, 3K and 10K footraces put on by the Empire Runners Club, one of the best 30-minute parades anywhere, and the Rotary Club of Glen Ellen-Kenwood’s Shindig in Plaza Park, complete with music, games, food and drink.

The Empire Runners footraces are one of the most popular of the year. Sign up online at www.kenwoodfootrace.com or the day of. Check-in and race day registration starts at 6 a.m. The 3K race starts at 7:30 a.m., and the 10K race starts at 7:33 a.m.

The Kenwood Community Church starts serving breakfast at 7 a.m., with pancakes, eggs, sausages, fruit, tea, coffee, and orange juice. Cost is $8 for adults, $5 for children. The annual silent auction is the church’s only fundraiser, and helps support the historic church throughout the year. If you have items to donate to the silent auction, please contact Jenny Froyd at 708-8887.

The U. S. Coast Guard and Kenwood’s new Girl Scout Troop 10282 will lead the parade starting at 10:30 a.m. at Clyde and Warm Springs roads, with dozens of adults, kids, tweens, dogs, horses, goats, honeybees, and surprise guests for a three-block march that winds up at Park Row. One of the best 30-minute parades in the United States, the parade proudly features our first responders from local fire departments. Kenwood Fire Chief Daren Bellach will be the parade’s Grand Marshal.

If you’d like to be in the parade, go to kenwoodparade.org and sign up, or pick up an entry form at the Kenwood Press.

After the parade, walk into the park for the Kenwood Shindig, with live music by Gator Nation and Radar, food for sale from Palooza Brewery & Gastropub and the TIPS Tri-Tip Trolley, beverages including Lagunitas beer and Kenwood Vineyards wines, kids games, face painting, popcorn, and good old 4th of July family fun.
