Oakmont Music Lovers features pianist Beal

Oakmont Berger Center

Tuesday December 4th 2018 - 10:30am to

For its December 2018 session, Oakmont Music Lovers welcomes back Amy Beal who will reprise her interesting and unique perspective on the Beethoven piano sonatas which Music Lovers first heard about five years ago. For those who did not attend Beal’s first presentation (and for those who did), this is another opportunity to listen to her knowledgeable insight on these wonderful works and to listen to excerpts played live.

The event takes place Tuesday, Dec. 4, 10:30 a.m. at the Berger Center in Oakmont. Admission is free.

Beal has been playing the piano her whole life and became a music historian in her 20s. She holds a Ph.D. in historical musicology from the University of Michigan and has taught at Bates College, Mills College and Princeton University. She is currently chair of the music department at the University of California, Santa Cruz. Beal also has two important local connections – she graduated from Petaluma High School, and her mother, Jane Garlinghouse, is a resident of Oakmont.
