Researcher presents “Living with Mountain Lions” session

Wednesday December 12th 2018 - 6:30pm to

Sonoma County Regional Parks is hosting a talk by mountain lion researcher Quinton Martins on Dec. 12, 6:30 p.m. at the Windsor Regional Library. The session will provide information on the movement, diet and behavior of mountain lions tracked by the “Living with Lions” project, a community conservation project based out of Bouverie Preserve in Glen Ellen, which Martins leads for Audubon Canyon Ranch (ACR). The presentation also will include tips for reducing conflicts between mountain lions and livestock and pets.

ACR is a nonprofit North Bay conservation agency. It is studying the region’s mountain lions to identify priority habitats and key wildlife corridors, and to promote ecosystem conservation. “Living with Lions” also teaches children and adults about the importance of living side-by-side with wildlife.

As part of the lions study, Martins has tracked and collared mountain lions for the past two years at various Sonoma County locations, including Regional Parks. Martins founded the Cape Leopard Trust, a predator conservation NGO based in South Africa. He has over 20 years of field experience in wilderness areas throughout Africa, Saudi Arabia and the United States.

Windsor Regional Library is at 9291 Old Redwood Hwy. in Windsor. This presentation is free and registration is not required.
