Volunteer disaster service training to help animals

Glen Ellen Fire Protection District

Thursday February 7th 2019 - 1:00pm to

People who want to learn how to help animals during disasters can participate in a free, half-day of training and instruction in Glen Ellen on Feb. 7.

This half-day class covers basic safety and situational awareness in wildland and wildland-urban interface fires, floods/slides, and earthquakes. The training includes required modules for most Community Animal Response Teams.

Enrollment is open to anyone interested in volunteer disaster service work, especially stable, farm, sanctuary, animal shelter and other facility managers and workers, volunteers, or anyone interested in being safer during and after a disaster.

This class fulfills several requirements for new volunteer training for many Community Animal Response Teams (CART). However, additional training is required to be eligible and you must check with the group(s) you are interested in joining.

This class includes a fire shelter deployment module, which students are not required to participate in if they are not physically able. However, this, and other training demonstrating physical fitness is required for individuals planning to join an evacuation or shelter-in-place team.

The class is taught by State of California Fire training instructors, Feb. 7 from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Glen Ellen Fire Station, 13445 Arnold Dr., Glen Ellen.
