Celebrate the Year of the Pig at Quarryhill

Quarryhill Botanical Garden President and Executive Director Bill McNamara will lead a walk in the garden to celebrate the Chinese New Year on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 1-3 p.m. Honor the arrival of the Year of the Pig by lighting incense and placing wishes on the garden’s Wishing Tree, a Ginkgo grown from seed collected in the wilds of China.

“Traditionally, this is the special time when we wish for happiness, wealth, and long life, explained McNamara. “Those born in the Year of the Pig are considered ‘communicative, popular among their friends, with a strong sense of time keeping.’ A relict tree with a 200-million-year history, the Ginkgo tree is a symbol of resilience, strength, hope, and peace.”

Meet McNamara at the Gift Shop/Visitor Center for traditional treats including tea, candy and red envelope giveaways, then a stroll through the garden. There is no additional fee to participate in the Chinese New Year walk, just the price of garden admission; no charge for members.
