First Responder Days at the fair

As a small thank you for their bravery and heroism, not only during last year’s fires, but every day, active members of law enforcement, firefighters and first responder units will be given free admission to the Sonoma County Fair on Monday, Aug. 6, and Tuesday, Aug. 7. “First Responder Days” is a community celebration to thank our local heroes in uniform, through a special promotion with Lucky Supermarkets.

In addition to free general admission, all first responders will receive a free ride on the “Farris” Wheel, thanks to KZST and Butler Amusements. KZST Radio Host Brent Farris said, “I remember sitting in the KZST studio with the wild fire flames licking at our back door. We thought KZST was a goner... until first responders showed up!”

The Fair will also feature a special exhibit in the Garden Building, “Sonoma Spirit – A Gathering of First Responders and Community Support,” which will display information and equipment from first responder organizations. Other buildings will house a 1938 42-foot quad fire truck and a horse-drawn steamer from the 1900s.

All first responders should show proof of ID at the gate. The offer does not include admission for family members or dependents.

In addition to tributes to the many heroes of Sonoma County, visitors will find all the makings for a fun-filled family outing. A floral tribute to the beauty of Sonoma County, free entertainment and tasty fair foods are just the beginning. From the exhibit buildings filled with your neighbors’ works of art to the livestock in the barns, from the cheering horse race fans to the screams of excitement in the carnival, the fair has something for everyone.

The Sonoma County Fair runs Aug. 2-12. To purchase tickets, visit a Lucky Supermarket or the Fair Box Office. Tickets can also be purchased online at or by calling 545-4200. You can follow the fair on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
