Barbara Annette Wride Parsons

Barbara passed on to heaven on Feb. 5, 2016, with her loving family by her side.

She was born in Los Angeles, California, on Sept. 17, 1929. She grew up in Alhambra and went on to earn her teaching credential from U.C. Berkeley. While there she met the love of her life, Bob Parsons. They were engaged one month after meeting on a blind date, and married five months later on Sept. 2, 1950. Married for 62 years to Bob, she was a loving mother to her two daughters and always enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

The Parsons moved to Kenwood in 1954 where Barbara was the first kindergarten teacher at Kenwood School (which was at the parsonage of Kenwood Community Church) and Bob owned Parsons Lumber and Hardware in Boyes Hot Springs with his father and brother. They were very involved in activities at the school where Barbara taught for over 25 years, and Barbara had the great honor of being Sonoma County Teacher of the Year. Being active in the Kenwood Community Church for over 60 years was a source of great joy. She always loved running into former students and hearing what was going on in their lives. Barbara was proud to be the leader of Guitars Unlimited, a 4-H guitar group that traveled and performed around the state.

Barbara and Bob loved their home on the hill overlooking Kenwood, and enjoyed gardening, reading, and hosting their famous Christmas Eve gathering each year along with other get-togethers. They enjoyed trips each summer to the family cabin, camping in the Redwoods and on the coast, and several vacations to the U.K.

Barbara is survived by her daughters Susan (Greg) Olson of Redding, and Robin (Scott) Lane of Kenwood. Her grandchildren are Shanti (Jeff) Chapman, Melissa (Anthony) Stiliha, Pamela (Dean) Teter, Casey (Kendall) Hughes, Brandon Hughes and Cameron Lane. She also has five great grandchildren: Isaiah Chapman, Darren Stiliha, Laney Stiliha, Morgan Teter, and Taylor Teter (soon to arrive). She loved being Auntie Barbara to her many nieces and nephews and is also survived by sister-in-law Joyce Parsons and brothers-in-law Donald Parsons and Joseph Hoffmann.

Barbara was predeceased by husband Bob, infant son James Robert, her parents Emery and Dorothy Wride, sister Marjorie Hoffmann and niece Debbie Parsons Roth.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 21, 2016, at the Kenwood Park on Channing Row, Kenwood.

In lieu of flowers, donations to your favorite children’s charity are appreciated.
