Barbara J. Powers, age 88



Barbara Powers passed away peacefully on Jan. 14, 2017. She was a Glen Ellen resident for the past 24 years. Barbara was born in Spokane, Washington, on March 25, 1928, to Kathrine A. Pickard and Grady S. Miller. She grew up in Oklahoma and Kansas, and was married to Sergeant First Class Alvah J. Powers of the 42nd Division of the U.S. Army during WWII. Barbara worked as a nurse for Saint Mary’s Hospital in San Francisco as well as for Marin General Hospital in Greenbrae. Al and Barbara where married for 46 years; her husband passed away in 1991. She is survived by her sons: John, James, and William Powers and her daughters: Mary Powers and Jane Murgatroyd. Two of her children, Robert and Patricia, are deceased. Besides her seven children she has numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

She was a member of the Glen Ellen Community Church for many years, and truly enjoyed being a part of the Glen Ellen Community. Barbara will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

A memorial will be held in her honor on Feb. 26, 11:30 a.m., at the Glen Ellen Community Church. Those wishing to remember Barbara may attend and/or, if desired, donate to the Glen Ellen Community Church, P.O. Box 41, Glen Ellen, CA 95442.
