Gorin seeks locals for committees

First District Supervisor Susan Gorin invites community members to apply for positions on local policy making bodies. Applications and a list of all boards, commissions, and committees to which the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors appoints members are available online at sonomacounty.ca.gov/Boards-Commissions-Task-Forces.

“Local government leaders want to hear your thoughts and your ideas on how to make improvements to a variety of issues in our community,” said Gorin. “Please consider joining one of over 75 Sonoma County Boards and Commissions and let your voice be heard.”

In the First District, Gorin is currently calling for applicants for the following commissions and boards:

Sonoma Valley Citizens Advisory Committee (SVCAC): One vacancy. The SVCAC is a joint advisory agency with representation from the County of Sonoma and the City of Sonoma to share responsibility for local planning in the Sonoma Valley. The Committee provides a regular forum for citizen participation in the formation of public policy, considers issues concerning the Sonoma Valley, evaluates solutions of these issues, advises elected officials and other decision makers, and forms a bridge for communication between the various governmental agencies and the general public. The available seat is restricted to individuals residing in South Sonoma Valley. Meeting schedule: Fourth Wednesday of most months at 6:30 p.m. at the Sonoma Police Department, Community Room, 177 First St. West, Sonoma.

Alcohol and Drug Problems Advisory Board: One vacancy. Members of this board participate in the planning process of collaborative short and long term goals and objectives for alcohol and other drug service delivery for all segments of the community; assist in the development of appropriate and effective evaluation strategies for programs; assist in the process to address current and future service needs; encourage and educate the public to understand the nature of alcohol and other drug problems; and encourage community support of alcohol and drug programs. Meeting schedule: Third Wednesday of each month, 5-7 p.m. at Orenda Center, meeting room #1, 1430 Neotomas Ave., Santa Rosa.

Flood Control Advisory Committee Valley of the Moon Watershed Zone 3A: One vacancy for each committee. Members of these committees are representative of agricultural, residential, municipal and commercial interests within this designated Zone and advise on flood control matters. There is one vacancy on the Flood Control Advisory Committee Laguna-Mark West Zone 1A, and two vacancies on the Flood Control Advisory Committee, Valley of the Moon, Zone 3A.

Meeting schedule: Typically this committee meets once per year. Information can be found at: www.scwa.ca.gov/lower.php?url=flood-protection-zones.
