Changes have come to Sierra Garden off Pythian Road
For the last several years, the Sierra Garden Club had been working with the Sierra Girl’s Center on Pythian Road. Sierra Garden Club volunteers mentored the girls by engaging them in various activities in their gardening and culinary programs, in addition to taking the girls on field trips and offering scholarships. At the end of 2016, Paradise Oaks Youth Services made the decision to close the Sierra Girl’s Center residential home.
In 2017, Sierra Garden volunteers continued to work diligently to cultivate the garden and to cook in the kitchen in anticipation of its new partnership with the Valley of the Moon Children’s Center (VMCC), located right next door to the garden. The Sierra Garden will continue to serve at-risk youth, both boys and girls from VMCC.
The Sierra Garden is still open to the public on Saturdays from 9 to 10:30 a.m. through the fall, selling vegetable starts, herbs, and flower seedlings in the spring and summer and fresh produce, jams and jellies, and baked goods.
Look for details coming soon about its popular Holiday Boutique. Proceeds from sales help support day to day operations and to offer scholarships to the youth in Sonoma County. Find out more at sierragarden.org.
