Linda McGeorge Lynn

After enduring over two years of treatment for ovarian cancer, Linda Lynn peacefully passed on April 9, with her family by her side, as the hospital chaplain sang to her.

She was born in Portland, Oregon, on April 18, 1939, to Charline and Harold (Mac) McGeorge. The family lived in Portland for several years before moving to Beaverton, Oregon, where Linda attended Beaverton High School, graduating in 1957. During her freshman year of college, she met the love of her life, Robert Lynn. They were married in Oregon over the Thanksgiving weekend in 1958 and moved to California, finally settling in Sonoma County in 1960. Linda continued her education at Santa Rosa Junior College and Sonoma State University. She was most proud to be in the first graduating class of Sonoma State.

Linda enjoyed a long career as a highly respected and greatly loved first grade teacher in the Rincon Valley School District. She was known for her love of story telling and creative projects. Each year she would collect milkweed plants with another teacher friend to teach a unit on the life cycle of the Monarch butterfly.

As her health began to decline, Linda moved to Oakmont Gardens Assisted Living in September of 2017. She greatly missed her Kenwood family home, which was consumed by the October wildfires. This was heartbreaking for her, but she realized how lucky she was to be moved and to have so many caring people looking after her.

Linda was predeceased by her parents, and her husband of over 53 years. She is survived by her two sons, Todd (Elaine) and Ryan (Lisa). She is also survived by five wonderful grandsons: Graham, Cooper, Owen, Merritt and Sterling; her sister, Sandra Jackson of Lake Oswego, Oregon; and many nieces and nephews. She will also be greatly missed by her many cherished, long-time friends, neighbors and former students.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, June 3, at Oakmont Golf Club, 7035 Oakmont Drive, Santa Rosa, 1-4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Linda’s memory to your favorite charity.
