Oakmont dog park update
On Thursday, May 17, more than 50 dog lovers met at Oakmont’s East Recreation Center for the first meeting of the Oakmont Canine Club. Club President Paula Lewis provided a dog park update, indicating that the OVA board is leaning towards finding an alternative site to the proposed Stone Bridge location. Recent feedback indicates the board believes the best solution is going to involve negotiating space from the Oakmont Golf Club, but they also realize that this route will take a great deal of time. It appears there is strong support, by both the board and club members, for creating a temporary interim site.
Two interim locations are now under evaluation: (1) The area behind the Berger Center, adjacent to the OVA office and the CAC pool; and (2) The open lawn area adjacent to the Berger along Oakmont Drive.
The Club and supporters plan to speak at the next OVA board meeting on June 19 in favor of selecting an interim site.
Dog park aside, the club discussed its future and gauged interest of members on a series of events like dog training lectures, guest speakers, dog shows, dog friendly hikes, dog play dates and therapy dog certification training programs. The next Canine Club meeting will be in early July. Those interested can sign up to join in the OVA office. Dues are $12.
