Gazebo dedication & Jazz, Blues & BBQ

Kenwood Plaza Park

Saturday September 20th 2014 - 12:00pm to

When you look at the new Kenwood Plaza Park gazebo, know that it took a lot of work by a lot of people to make it happen, and that most of that work was donated by residents and companies who support Kenwood and our showcase park.

Everyone who contributed to getting this structure built should be proud of what they’ve accomplished: A memorial to Bobby Musser-Kirby and other children whose lives were tragically cut short, and a memorial garden for Candace “Candy” Heim and Glory Whitehead.

The gazebo will be formally dedicated on Sept. 20, at noon, with a barbecue and music fest to follow on the park grounds. Speakers at the dedication include Supervisor Susan Gorin, Sonoma County Regional Parks Operations Manager Bert Whitaker, Don MacNair, owner of MacNair Landscape Architecture and designer of the gazebo, and Warren Musser, grandfather of Bobby Musser-Kirby.

Then comes the party – Kenwood Jazz, Blues and BBQ. The jazz, from 1 to 3 p.m., will be provided by the Kenwood Jazz Trio, featuring Robb and Oliver Hunt (father and son) and Joel Kruzic. You won’t enjoy better jazz this side of San Francisco. Jay Bodlovich’s Ragtag Sullivan Band will provide blues and funk from 3 to 5 p.m., and special guests will appear throughout the afternoon, as well.

The food will be served from 2 to 3:30 p.m., provided by Caf Citti, Palooza, Kenwood Restaurant, and Vineyards Inn, with special help from the Garden Court Caf.

A big feature of the day will be the silent auction, with a fine array of items to stir the acquisitive side of the most jaded shoppers. Community support continues with auction items donated by many of our local businesses and residents.

A partial list of items includes Giants lower box seats for four for 2015; sailing on San Francisco Bay on a Morgan 38, including wine by White Oak and Moylan Rouge; Zip Line Adventure Canopy Tours; one night stay in the cottage at Quarry Hill Botanical Garden with morning docent tour for four; Chateau St. Jean “signed by the winemaker” Magnum 2008 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon; Jeroboam of Gloria Ferrer Sonoma Brut in wooden gift box with gift certificate for VIP Private Tour and Tasting for four; gift certificates for Olive & Vine Restaurant, fig caf, Glen Ellen Inn, and Aventine ~ Glen Ellen, and much, much more.

Tickets cost $35 for adults ($45 on the event day) and $5 for children, making it a very family-friendly Saturday afternoon. Adult tickets include a glass of wine or beer, and children’s tickets include a beverage. Please bring a lawn chair and blanket to sit on since seating is limited.

Tickets are available at the Kenwood Press, Swede’s Feeds, and Vineyards Inn, and online at kenwoodgazebo.brownpapertickets.com.
