Jack London Book Discussion Group first meeting

Jack London State Park

Saturday March 5th 2016 - 4:00pm to

One hundred years ago, on Nov. 22, 1916, Jack London, the internationally renowned writer, passed away at his beloved Beauty Ranch in Glen Ellen. Alfred Kazin famously said that the “greatest story Jack London ever wrote was the story he lived.” In that spirit, the third season of the Jack London State Historic Park Book Discussion Group will celebrate the centennial of London’s life by reading and discussing four of his best-loved novels:

March 5 Call of the Wild

June 4 Sea Wolf

Oct. 7 White Fang

Dec. 3 Valley of the Moon

The group meets from 4 to 6 p.m. on the first floor of the House of Happy Walls Museum at Jack London State Historic Park, and refreshments will be served outside during the break. The first meeting is March 5, with Call of the Wild.

The discussion group is led by Dr. Susan Nuernberg and Dr. Iris Jamahl Dunkle, who are currently researching and writing a book titled The Creative Life of Charmian Kittredge London. They have co-authored several essays on Jack London, including a paper on London’s use of the Bildungsroman in Martin Eden, and a study of London’s novel The Valley of the Moon for Oxford University Press.

Admission is free (except for the standard $10 per car parking fee) but each meeting is limited to 20 participants so reservations are recommended. Reservations can be made at www.jacklondonpark.com.
