Walk to wildflowers, views

Jack London State Park

Saturday April 2nd 2016 - 10:00am to

The spectacular panoramic views offered from the new Eliot Loop East Slope Trail in Jack London State Historic Park opened to the public last March, after two decades of focused effort and collaboration, with help from the Bay Area Ridge Trail and the Sonoma County Agriculture and Open Space District. The second wildflower walk of this year’s “Discover your Call of the Wild” nature series takes hikers to this spot to discover the array of wildflowers that bloom along the trail while enjoying the fantastic views. Expect to see carpets of California poppies and lupines at the top and a variety of wildflowers along the trail. On Saturday, April 2, 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m., park naturalist John Lynch leads a moderately paced, 12-mile nature hike that involves some elevation gain. Suitable for ages 15 and up, this hike is limited to 15 participants. Wear sturdy shoes and bring water, lunch and binoculars. With the abundant rain, be prepared for a few muddy trails.

Admission is $10, plus an additional $10 parking fee. Meet in the Ranch Parking Lot of Jack London State Park, 2400 London Ranch Road, Glen Ellen. Heavy rain cancels, check website at www.jacklondonpark.com.
