Centennial memorial to be held at Jack London gravesite

Jack London State Park

Saturday November 19th 2016 - 10:30am to

This year marks the hundredth anniversary of Jack Londonís death. As a special tribute to one of America and the worldís the best-known writers, Jack London State Historic Park will hold a memorial on Saturday, Nov. 19.

London died of kidney failure on Nov. 22, 1916. In his short life he accomplished much, not only as a writer of 50 books, but also as an adventurer, reporter, war correspondent, sports writer, and innovative farmer. He was in the process of developing a model ranch, destined to be the finest in California, when he died. He would have wished farming to be his true legacy, far beyond writing.

The memorial is open to the public at no charge other than the $10 per vehicle entrance fee. Meet at the House of Happy Walls Museum at 10:30 a.m. to start the half-mile walk to Londonís gravesite. Refreshments will be served. A golf cart will be available for those who prefer not to walk. There will be presentations and poetry about Jack Londonís life. After the memorial, there will be a short presentation of the facts that are known about Jack Londonís death at the age of 40. Rain may move some or all of the presentations indoors to the museum.
