Oakmont Sunday Symposium

The Oakmont Sunday Symposium provides a forum for speakers on diverse topics such as science, history, politics, culture and current events. Attendance is intended for Oakmont residents and their invited guests. Symposiums take place from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the East Recreation Center. Oakmontsundaysymposium.org.

May 21 – “Teaching critical thinking in our schools,” Dr. Tony Kashani

In this symposium, Dr. Tony Kashani will explore the ways in which we can implement a systemic approach to teaching critical media literacy in our school system. In the 21st century, the so-called “information age,” media literacy has become a necessity for a citizenry concerned about democratic engagement and authentic living. Santa Rosa Junior College Media Studies instructor Kashani is an author, professor, media expert, cultural critic and author.
