'Wild' gala an immersive experience
Saturday September 23rd 2017 -
Step back in time for a wild night as the historic winery ruins at Jack London State Park are transformed into the famous Heinold's First and Last Chance Saloon, to commemorate a much-storied part of Jack London's life. The historic waterfront saloon still stands in Oakland's Jack London Square. It was known as Jack's rendezvous, where the bigger-than-life regulars inspired some of his most colorful characters.
The second annual “Call of the Wild” gala fundraiser for Jack London State Historic Park will take place Saturday, Sept. 23, from 6 to 10 p.m. under the stars at Jack London State Historic Park (2400 London Ranch Road in Glen Ellen).
The event promises to be more than a typical fundraiser celebration - rather a fully immersive and fun experience. Upon arrival, guests may encounter bawdy ladies of the evening, drunken sailors, pickpockets, card sharks and fortunetellers roaming the meadow (courtesy of Libby Oberlin of Sonoma's Theater School and Moira McGovern). Even Jack London will appear, accompanied by some of his famous characters including Wolf Larson (Sea Wolf) and John Thornton (Call of the Wild). As everyone converges together to weave the story of the evening, guests will be invited to sample some of Sonoma's finest artisanal whiskeys. A sitdown dinner will follow, prepared by Stellar Catering with fine wines provided by Kenwood Vineyards.
Jack London Park Partners receives no funding from the State of California and depends completely on community support to maintain the Park and continue to tell Jack London's story to future generations.
