Nov. 19 – “The Brain: New Studies and Revelations about the Brain and Aging,” Dr. Alan Bernstein

Brain researchers have tested new therapies to reduce presumed toxic elements from individuals with early signs of dementia. At the same time, more is being learned about preserving brain function by changing our behavior patterns, even improving it in the face of normal aging.

The lecture will cover new classes of medications and the status of research into the reversible causes of memory loss. Bernstein is currently associate professor of Medicine at UCSF and was previously professor of Neurology at UC Davis. He worked simultaneously for Kaiser and UC for 34 years, allowing him to combine clinical practice and research for both. He is the author of more than 50 publications in medical journals and textbooks covering the topics of dementia, migraines, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, pain management, nutrition and stroke. Bernstein directs research programs in Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s in Santa Rosa and sees clinic patients two days a week.

There is no Symposium on Nov. 26.
